The objective of the research is to carry out an in-depth analysis of racial quota policies in public service examinations and the operational mechanisms of the “Self-Declaration Verification Committees.” To this end, the research initially aims to systematize and disseminate up-to-date information on how racial quotas function in public examinations in Brazil and on the beneficiaries of this policy. It provides a systematization of existing experiences at the national, federal, state, and municipal levels, mapping the various existing legal frameworks. Subsequently, the research delves into the existing committees, selecting some of them as subjects for qualitative fieldwork. It also seeks to analyze the current context of questioning and evaluation of affirmative action policies in Brazil, their functioning, and their impact. As outputs of the research, the following will be developed: (a) an illustrative and georeferenced map of the current models of racial quotas in public examinations, and (b) a qualitative analysis of the functioning of affirmative action policies in the Brazilian public service.
